Getting Ready to Get on Stage Tonight, New Song…be brave:)

Ive been doing this for a few years now, you would think that by now i would be settled in it. Truth is i think i love playing now more than ever before. Its so easy to forget how amazing it feels to play music.

Maybe its all the social media stuff im doing. Getting back into learning again, reconnecting and being excited by new ideas. Something about the process of reading and writing and trying to be more open to the world makes music taste better, feel better. (and you know i loved it before:)

Im really exploring these ideas. And, by the way my french lessons are going well, i really like my teacher Eric and im commited to doing it this time. I just have to squeeze in the time.
So im working up the set list for tonight in Toronto. We are going to play the new single “Kill the Lights” tonight. Promise…

It’s great, though, to hear how you still love playing so much and get excited about it. Have fun! :)

Bonjour David…Bonne chance ce soir! I think that’s great that you are loving it more now! Being able to get up there on that stage and play to a crowd that supports you whole-heartedly must be really cool. Wish I could be there to show the love…hugs XO

Hey David!! Your show tonight will be amazing! This is when I wish that I lived in Toronto!!- or within driving distance anyway. The crowd is really in for a treat. Can’t wait to see pics of the show (or maybe video).
It is so great that you are so passionate about your music still- and it shows in your amazing songs. You are a very talented individual, and the fact that you have opened the whole process up to us is amazing!! Take Care, Good luck tonight. xx Andrea

NicoleG • May 24th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

I know you know at least know one word en français… “encore”! haha…

Adrian • May 24th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Thanks David for an awesome set tonight. It was good to hear a mix of stuff (and not the usual tracks). I know playing these events is a mixed blessing because of the crowd but I will say this was a better show than the last time I saw you at The Mod Club a couple of years back.

Set list, for the record – and for those who couldn’t be there:

MESSAGE HOME
SOME PEOPLE SAY
MY WAY OUT
THE MUSIC
PUSH
LOVE WILL SAVE THE DAY

Thank-you for the amazing show!

Cindy A • May 25th, 2008 at 12:27 am

Don’t know if this is in violation of anything but I uploaded 2 of 3 videos I shot:

Steven • May 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Great show David. Haven’t seen you play in toronto in the longest time. Great songs and i was glad to hear some of the old stuff! YOU KICK ASS!

phillr • May 26th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Awesome performance as usual! One request: I wish you had performed Alone In The Universe :(. The crowd goes insane everytime you perform it and it’s an amazing energy rush to hear 50+% of the audience singing along word for word. Great performance nonetheless!

Elizabeth • May 26th, 2008 at 12:36 pm

Thank for posting the setlist Adrian, it sounds like it was a wicked show!!

David, I just hope you add ‘Science’ to your setlist for Calgary!

yvette kirchgesner • May 26th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Wow! The new single is out in two weeks? That’s fast…Can’t wait. I’d wish you guys luck but you won’t need it with a song like that:-)”Kill The Lights” is awesome!

Dark_Angel • May 26th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

David, you and the band were absolutely awesome!!! So much energy put into it all… and a few good laughs… like the ambulance or firetruck going by during Push. Hilarious! Music and comedy…Hope to see you guys again soon! :)

P.S. I loved the intro beat to Kill The Lights.

Graeme • May 26th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Absolutely love the new single.

Bronwyn • May 26th, 2008 at 6:36 pm

bonne chance avec vos leçons ! et les concerts, bien sûr haha

bonne journée!

Michael • May 26th, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Had a great time, really enjoyed the concert and Chantal as well after you guys. My wife liked helping you get back over the fence when you went into the crowd, she had a smile all the way back home. Hmmm, now I wonder why?????

Hope to see you again this summer, the band was great, saw Jon on the street an hour or so before as we were checking out a restaurant.

Adrian • May 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Glad to have helped anybody who was there or anybody who wasn’t able to attend. Thanks to those who’ve posted video – it’s funny because David cracked a joke about his “pythons” at one point saying that it’d be up on YouTube shortly after the show.

Laura: you’re dead right. The BASS was ridiculous at the show; I found the mid- and high-range missing from the mix (I was standing literally three rows from the stage).

Shannon • May 27th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

I tried to hold off on watching the video of the new song but my willpower gave out as soon as I got off the plane! LOL! And I’m glad it did. It is UN-Freakin-BELIEVABLE!!! So amazing! I cant wait to hear it hit the airwaves!!! :) :) :)

Shannon • May 27th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

p.s. Practising my rhythmic clapping now! :) Cant wait for a show!!!!!!!!!

yvette kirchgesner • May 27th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

How can one not giggle when the song goes into the rhtymic clapping! The picture of David missing is forever etched in my mind! LOL.

Dongsung • May 27th, 2008 at 10:40 pm

it was real and Genuine. I never really enjoyed standing and listen music for hours. It was dynamic and something that I felt really close to band. Not like rude big rockstar. it’s more likely friend that I was listening to. Great Job guys. I can’t wait for next concert. it was totally something new.

Michael • May 28th, 2008 at 9:35 am

Forgot to mention loved Fast Cars and the way you did it, fantastic! Great song. Kill the Lights excellent as well, neat.

moistndamp • May 29th, 2008 at 12:02 am
