An Acoustic Album is brewing, what songs do you want to hear?

Ive been thinking about it for a long time now and finally im about to start working on the re-record acoustic album. Looking back there are so many songs that ive written that i want to try with new arrangements, with new eyes. And maybe a few new ones as well.

So the question is:

What songs would you like to hear on the album and in concert? Ive got my own list, but i really want to hear form you.

Leave your comments and ideas at http://www.davidusher.com so we can all see them in one place.

see you fall needs to be included…

vanessa • December 27th, 2008 at 5:13 am

cant wait til this album comes out, im so excited!! I loved all the songs you sang acoustic at rw&co in Vancouver. Can I request all your songs done acoustic?! :0)

Naomi W • December 27th, 2008 at 5:16 am

Yay! This sounds exciting!
It took a long time to narrow this list down, but here it is:

- If you Tolerate this…
- In this Light
- Galaxy
- Long Goodbye
- Final Thoughts and Last Days on Earth
- Surfacing
- See you Fall
- Too close to the Sun
- Blinded
- Soldiering

I think an acoustic album will be just great! It’ll be interesting to hear our favourite songs in a new way, but I’m sure that with a new tune and new ears it will bring a wonderful love to them.

Ian Moffatt • December 27th, 2008 at 5:42 am

Acoustic Record ?? I think that was the best news i have read anywhere in…. A long, long time. I am really excited about this! I think the ideal track listing would look like:

1. St. Lawrence River
2. Tomorrow Comes
3. Wake up and Say Goodbye
4. Life of Bees
5. The Music
6. Underground
7. The Wolves
8. Love Will Save the Day
9. Alone in the Universe
10. Everyday Things
11. Speak/Listen
12. Dogs

The Wolves is a really beautiful song, and so under appreciated! I can’t believe it is not a favorite among more fans. I think it is likely David Ushers best kept secrete. I know there are 2 moist songs on there, but i think both of them, especially Underground would sound absurdly amazing as an acoustic track.
I am head over heels in love with the raw acoustic sound, and consider myself quite the collector of acoustic records – yours will make for an amazing addition. Can’t wait!

Andrea • December 27th, 2008 at 5:45 am

Hi David!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!! I am so excited to hear about an acoustic album!!! I think “Believe Me”, “Breathe”, “Resurrection”, “St. Lawrence River”, oh its really hard to pick. Basically anything would sound awesome!!! “Leave It Alone” — I could go on and on— PLEASE come to Vancouver Island on the next tour!!!!!!!! Take care, Andrea xxxx

Kai • December 27th, 2008 at 5:54 am

I saw an acoustic version you did of Black Black Heart on youtube and I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I thought it was beautiful though. Please do that one for me :)

Also, I think it would be interesting to see what you would do with We Are Wolves Here in acoustics. I look forward to seeing it nonetheless. I love acoustic music so whatever you put on the CD I’m really excited to hear.

Faith • December 27th, 2008 at 6:34 am

David!

Been a while! Wow so many updates already, i havent been checking in. hahaha. Just got your new album, it sounds so great! Secret Garden and The River are my favorites. See You Fall
Life of Bees
Too Close to the Sun
Butterfly
Fast Car
Brilliant
Alone in the Universe (hopefully with a Thai Version)
My Way Out
I’m Coming Down
Tomorrow Comes
Fearless
Forestfire
St.Lawrence River
Long Goodbye
Hope [Tell Everyone]
White Flag
Some People Say
Spotlight On
Wake Up and Say Goodbye

Marni • December 27th, 2008 at 8:55 am

Souring was my favorite song that you used to do live at Rockwood so that one definitely has to be on there.

victoria bourne • December 27th, 2008 at 9:01 am

i am still basking in the glory of your current album. may i suggest at least a double album of acoustic songs since you have so many. i just found the official video for kill the lights, nice one and all too accurate might i add, the song really hits hard, scarey, i am not even gonna try to understand. Why did you not post the video for it?

Anne • December 27th, 2008 at 9:41 am

Any of your songs, your choice would be Fantastic but my first choice is Brilliant. I LOVE that song…Brilliant! :D

Brenda Lynn • December 27th, 2008 at 10:11 am

In this light
Love will save the day
souring

Gish Moore • December 27th, 2008 at 10:22 am

hello David,
as with others, I would like to hear another version of St.Lawrence River. I loved the album, Morning Orbit and as such would like to hear anything acoustically redone from that album.

Regardless which songs you choose, I will likely buy the album just to hear what you’ve done. :)
G.

Thanh • December 27th, 2008 at 10:30 am

FAST CAR!!!! thats my only choice. if you make a whole album with just that one song on it and sell it for 10$, id buy it

cara • December 27th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

“souring” and “blue” are two of my favorites, and i also think it would be awesome to get “carry on” in a more accessible place since it is another gem. however, my biggest vote goes for the remix of “tangerine” from the machine punch through audio dvd. AMAZING!

david usher • December 27th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

souring for sure, there is a great new version waiting!

Jade • December 27th, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Airplanes
Alone in the Universe

Leave it Alone – if you’re including Moist songs.

I’ll need more time to think of more…

Nathalie • December 27th, 2008 at 2:17 pm

OH yeah, accoustic album. I dream about it since so long.

It’s hard to make a choice.

Alone in the universe.
My way out.
I don’t know, it’s too hard to make a choice.

Just go with the vibe. I’m sure it’s gonna be so good.

Happy holidays to you, your family and friends.

Nathan • December 27th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

I can’t believe no one has mentioned My Biggest Mistake yet. I love that song! my favourite new song. I’d also like to see And So We Run, I Am The Weapon, When It Hurts, Carry On, Black Black Heart, If You Tolerate This.., Alone In The Universe, The Music, Forest Fire and Jesus Was My Girl. Any of those would be awesome to have on the album acoustically!

Craig • December 27th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

I think it’d be great to have a couple tracks from each album! And maybe even one or two from the Moist era. And so my many propositions include:
- Low Low Low
- Leave it Alone
- Jesus Was My Girl
- Forestfire
- Alone in the Universe
- My Way Out
- Numb
- Hope (Tell Everyone)
- Science
- Ugly is Beautiful
- We Are Wolves Here (Electric City)
- Airplanes

Whatever you come out with, David, I’m sure it’ll be wicked. Looking forward to the final product!

Brenda Lynn • December 27th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

I was thinking just now, how great it would be if Eric Clapton could allow you to record an acoustic cover of “Tears in Heaven”

david usher • December 27th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

numb is an interesting suggestion, hadnt thought of that but always liked the lyric:)

Lalou • December 27th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Excellent idea an acoustic album leads having let with us hear what among what it could look like as And so we run…
I completely rely on you, to you and your team for the appropriate choices. I shall be anyway, charmed. Be allowed go!

Angel • December 27th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

‘And so we Run’ would be beautiful in any form. :) Can’t wait for the new album David!

Sabrina aka angelinfire • December 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm

Michelle • December 27th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Looking forward to your next creative gems inspiring to us all.

Bryan M. • December 27th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

maybe the new arrangement of Time Of Our Lives? but acoustic of course.

some other favorites of mine are:

souring
f-train
hope (tell everyone)

and of course some unexpected songs. maybe Forestfire? or a re-arranged version of Trickster…. or how about the live version of Jesus Was My Girl??(that song is amazing with the acoustic guitar at the beginning)

sorry for so many suggestions, I know it’s probably hard to read through them all!

take care.

devils by my side … for sure :)

fendergurl • December 27th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Hi. I know that you are enquiring about the songs that you have written and the prospect of making an acoustic version of them, but I am wondering if you would consider covering the songs of other artists? You have such a unique voice, and it would be quite exciting to hear what you might be able to do by creating your own acoustic version of other popular songs.
Just a thought, and if I were to suggest songs that would be dynamic, if you were to cover them, I might suggest:

-Everybody’s Fool, Evanescence
-Betterman, Pearl Jam
-Times Like These, Foo Fighters

Your music continues to inspire me and your lyrics always open up new ideas. Thanks for offering this chance for fans to submit their opinions.

Happy New Year ahead.

Faraz • December 27th, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Hi David,
I’d love to hear these on the new album

1. My Way Out
2. Alone in the Universe
3. Love Will Save the Day

Happy New Year and Thank you,
btw, Great show in Vancouver!!!

kristi • December 27th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

I think Kill the Lights would be awesome acoustic!

MiZ • December 27th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Well, I’d love to hear ANY song in concert, but since you don’t play any lower in the States than Buffalo, NY, I’ll have to imagine what it would sound like. However, since you asked, I have something in mind that’s a little more obscure. I don’t know if you’d be adverse to playing any Moist, but one of my FAVORITE songs from that era is Better Than You. I think that could be Very cool acoustic. Thanks for the great music! Continued success from an American fan!

Karsten • December 27th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Underground
Mike Hammer
Breathe
Place
Fish – pretty much anything off of Mercedes Five and Dime I would love to hear an acoustic re-arrangement of.
Galaxy
Too Close to the Sun
Jesus Was My Girl
Alone in the Universe
F Train
And I agree with MiZ; Better Than You would be pretty cool in an acoustic arrangement.

Karsten • December 27th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

May I second the idea as well of a double album? Maybe one cd of older songs (moist etc) and one of newer material re-worked…that would be amazing amazing amazing if you could do that….The Wolves is another song I left off that would be good..

Kelly • December 27th, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Blinded
Jesus Was My Girl
A Day in the Life
Forestfire
Science
The Music

Chantal • December 27th, 2008 at 5:51 pm

I’ve always liked Trickster (hope I wrote it correctly)… would be fun to hear it with new arrangements !

Bono • December 27th, 2008 at 5:58 pm

Sparkle and Shine
Galaxy
See You Fall
Tomorrow Comes
Time of Our Lives(the way you guys performed it last tour – AWESOME)
Blinded

I’d also love to hear you do a cover of any U2 song. Maybe:

Kirti • December 27th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

I would love to hear an acoustic version of BRILLIANT. It’s been my favorite song all through uni.
- kirti

melanie /mini fee • December 27th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

I think that you should keep your best hits for a live album, here my choice of songs that feels more grounded, best to fit with an acoustic album…

Galaxy
Gazoline
My way out
How are you (this one should realy be there)
Science
Devil by my side
St-Laurence river…

Kirti • December 27th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Ooh, and if there’s any chance you could sing brilliant the next time you’re in saskatoon, i would be SOOOO grateful. Ive seen you twice in concert(for Strange Birds and Wake Up), and both times was crossing my fingers to hear it.

Cory • December 27th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

I would like to hear ‘underground’ acoustically…it is my favorite song. I saw you live in peterborough dave and it was wicked…don’t stop making albums ever!

Mylène • December 27th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Hi David!
I would like to hear «hallucinations» for sure cause’ that’s my favorite songs of all! «my way out», «surfacing», «st-lawrence river». I really like «my biggest mistake» , «wake up and say goodbye» and «when it hurts» from the new album!

Good luck hope to see you soon at saint-jean-sur-richelieu!
-xx-

Tracey • December 27th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

It took a while to decide but here are some that would be great:

*See You Fall
*Breathe-I know this is from Moist but it is a great song
*My Way Out
*Forestfire

but “Time Of Our Lives” would be my pick!

I really like the track “Kill The Lights” on the Batman Dark Knight Trailer…very well done.

Cheryl Killam • December 27th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Love Will Save the Day.

That is my pick………..its a beautiful song by a beautiful artist.

One other that is wonderful is The River.

Phoenix • December 27th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Accousticly, Love Will Save The Day would sound beautiful. As well as Airplanes, Jesus Was My Girl and My Way Out.

Ben Anderman • December 27th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Alone In The Universe
Hallucinations
The Music
Ugly Is Beautiful
Spotlight On
White Flag
We Are Wolves Here (I really like how it is electrified, but I could see it being quite good acoustic too)
I Am The Weapon
Forest Fire

Nick • December 27th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

In this light
Going home
St Lawrence river
Love will save the day
F train
Forest fire
A day in the life
The music
White flag
Wake up and say goodbye
time of our lives

I like black black heart 2.0 and the river as well, but I’m not sure how well they’d work as acoustic songs.

If you allowed I’d really like to hear an acoustic version of breathe and underground.

Melinda • December 27th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

An absolute must would be
Tomorrow comes
In this Light

My husband and i listened to these songs in my car, chatting the night away, till sunrise on our first date 4 years ago…
We actually listened to the whole Hallucinations album!!!
So everytime you come play Banff, we are always there!!!!

Another cool thing you could do, is remake St-Lawrence river in French or part French. That song reminds me sooooo much of home (MTL). Living in the Rockies is great, but whenever i hear that song, i cry a little and just wanna go home, and eat “des queues de Castor at the Old Port”

Thanks for the years of great music (Moist+Solo). From watching your free show on St.Catherines with Grimskunk 10 years ago, to seeing you play the Whiskey in Calgary this year, you never stop moving me with your lyrics and melodies. Goosebumps every single time, sometimes a little tear no matter how many times i’ve heard the songs live. You always seem to bring a piece of MTL with you everytime you play out West, and for those 2-3hours, i’m home again…

You should pair up with Melissa Auf der Maur, one day! That would be awesome! Montreal connection!!!!

Hope to se you in Banff VERY soon :)

Chantal • December 27th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

My way out
White Flag
Surfacing
tomorrow comes
See you Fall
Going Home

Thanks :)

JSacco • December 27th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Excellent idea!

My suggestion would be a double cd/dvd disc set. The acoustic on one cd and the other would be a DVD with all the music videos.

Just a thought.

:+)

Siri Ellis • December 27th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

I would love to hear fish.

Holly Thompson • December 27th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

The Music and Fast Car. I really love these two songs! :)

J Bond • December 27th, 2008 at 10:22 pm

David,

I would love to see you reach back into the Moist catalog for Resurrection. I find it appropriate not just for its name (and think it may be a great first song for this new effort), but I also believe that as time has passed that it could be very valuable for you as an individual to look back on this particular piece. Well, let me also confess to wanting it for my own selfish reasons. I simply love the song and it is one of the songs by which I discovered you and Moist. I hope there would not be any licensing conflict or anything with this particular suggestion. Thanks for the opportunity to chime in on this.

ryan • December 27th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

i like the idea of an acoustic record, i know thats been on your mind for a while….but what REALLY needs to happen which im sure everyone would love…is an all out LIVE DVD!!!

Have a nice day !

Andrea • December 27th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

Wow, I’m honoured that you’re asking for fan input.

Trying to choose just a few songs for an acoustic set is pretty impossible. I chose songs that are acoustic-friendly, but perhaps I should’ve chosen songs that aren’t, so that they can be completely interpreted in new ways. Acoustically, I would like to hear not necessarily the “hits,” but the “loveliest” songs.

From Little Songs:
St. Lawrence River // F Train // Final Thoughts & the Last Day on Earth

From Morning Orbit:
Black Black Heart // My Way Out // Blinded // Closer

From Hallucinations:
Numb // Time of our Lives // Devil By My Side // In this Light // Tomorrow Comes

From If God Had Curves:

Something that seems like it would be interesting to hear, in my opinion, would be a bare bones/minimalist version of “Spotlight On.” I think it would turn out great. I’m looking forward to what you come up with!

seasonsinthesky • December 28th, 2008 at 1:54 am

generally speaking, i find a lot of your lesser-known (i.e. non-single) material feels better suited, from my outsider perspective, for acoustic reinterpretations. for instance, a song like Blue feels more apt for an acoustic guitar accompaniment than Love Will Save the Day (to me). also, a lot of your songs already feature acoustic guitars prominently, so i think the more material you use that already doesn’t include acoustic guitars, the better the acoustic reworking would be (i.e. Long Goodbye, In This Light, Hallucinations, The River, etc.). lastly, if you do want/are able to include any Moist songs, i think Gasoline, Hate, Morphine, Breathe, and Fish feel “acoustically inclined;” personally, i find much of Mercedes Five and Dime in particular has a sublime quality that would easily translate to an acoustic setting (whereas earlier material, especially on Silver, seems to really ask for the electric accompaniment to get the point across emotionally accurately).

Deb • December 28th, 2008 at 1:55 am

heehee…I guess I didn’t remove the first comment, that only included one “dog”. Tried. Failed.

Kathleen Finnegan • December 28th, 2008 at 1:58 am

Please include:
life of bees
love will save the day
some people say….. a classic!
so far down

A big fan of Moist : gasoline and tangerine could be interesting…

Niko • December 28th, 2008 at 2:09 am

They are all awesome songs, I would like to hear them all acoustically.

Muran • December 28th, 2008 at 2:16 am

David,

These songs are a request from the heart, as they have deep. personal meaning for me:

* Dogs
* See You Fall
* Breathe

Heather • December 28th, 2008 at 2:16 am

My way out needs to be done…I’m certain it was meant to be recorded in its raw form..please! Also, In This Light would be pretty terrific.
Good Luck

Kim • December 28th, 2008 at 2:17 am

Science and I Am The Weapon. For sure. =D

Ashlee • December 28th, 2008 at 2:26 am

I think Surfacing and And So We Run would be awesome acoustic! I loved everything you did acoustic at the concert at Mod Club in Toronto.

James • December 28th, 2008 at 2:29 am

I was so excited to hear you sing Deliver Me live; I’d love to see that on the album.

dep • December 28th, 2008 at 2:32 am

acoustic albums are fantastic (especially since i won’t be able to catch u live unless u come to asia again)! too many songs come to mind but would really love to hear “surfacing”, “underground”, “leave it alone”, “the music”, “fearless”, “love will save the day”, “jesus was my girl”, “white flag”.
actually basically any song acoustic from you will be great!! :D

david usher • December 28th, 2008 at 2:39 am

fearless is a song i hadnt thought of but hummm…

Jenny • December 28th, 2008 at 2:47 am

David,

I love the idea of the acoustic album. Would you be able to do Moist songs? I miss hearing them soooo much and it would be absolutely incredible! And also Black Black Heart should definitely be included. But Tangerine, Low, Tonight, Comes and Goes would be amazing to hear again on the album and in concert! Good luck with everything and Happy New Year and to and your wife.

Stephanie • December 28th, 2008 at 3:13 am

St. Laurence River
Black Black Heart

Acoustic guitar and piano……. pure, simple goodness :)

Thank you David.

Brittny • December 28th, 2008 at 3:41 am

I would LOVE to hear a lot of songs from Hallucinations, as I personally believe it’s your best work. Fearless in particular would be amazing to hear acoustic. DEVIL BY MY SIDE would be amazing. I will never forgive you if you ignore how beautiful Time of our lives would sound acoustic. Surfacing would be very moving. FORESTFIRE is epic and deserves an acoustic honoring, . So, to sum it up…

From Hallucinations:
1. Fearless
2. Devil by my Side
3. Time of our Lives
4. Surfacing

From Little Songs:
1. Unholy Dirty and Beautiful
2. Trickster
3. Forestfire
4. F Train

From If God had Curves:
1. Long Goodbye

….and many others. Just DON”T do Butterfly, it would not sound right….Best of luck!

Teresa • December 28th, 2008 at 3:44 am

Ooo, some of my faves off the top of my head…

We Are Wolves Here (Electric City)
The River
Airplanes
Souring
Surfacing
Too Close to the Sun
Trickster
Brilliant
Ugly is Beautiful
Kill the Lights
Everything is Alright by Me Now
and of course St Lawrence River

Bongo drums might be a really nice accompaniment for the acoustic guitar on some of the songs like maybe We Are Wolves Here and Kill the Lights, if I may be so bold as to suggest. I’ve heard the combination before and really liked them together.
T!!!

Amy • December 28th, 2008 at 3:49 am

It’s so hard to choose, honestly. You do so well either way. I’ve heard both acoustic and electric of a few of your songs, such as And So We Run, The Music, St Laurence River, and from Moist, Push and Morphine/Break Her Down, and I can never decide which version I enjoy better! I will admit though, I’d like to hear some of your VERY electric songs acoustic, such as Kill the Lights (I noticed no one else put it, because it IS so electric, but it would be so nifty), and I agree, if you’re doing Moist songs, Underground and Ophelia would be interesting to hear “unplugged”. Honestly though, whichever ones you’ve decided on, I KNOW are going to sound great :D

Kathleen Finnegan • December 28th, 2008 at 4:05 am

Jessica Moffa • December 28th, 2008 at 10:30 am

I’ve tried really hard to choose only a few songs, but like someone else already mentioned, it would be a good idea to do a double album, as so many of your songs would sound great acoustic. Here are the ones I’d like to hear the most:
1. St. Lawrence River
2. Time Of Our Lives
3. Devil By My Side
4. Long Goodbye
5. Love Will Save The Day
6. Blue
7. And So We Run

My boyfriend, on the other hand, would like to hear the following:
1. The Music
2. Black Black Heart

I can’t wait to hear this new album… This is really a good idea!!

- so far down
-Black Black heart

Sara • December 28th, 2008 at 12:49 pm

There’s too many greats to choose from!!
You often do a cover or two at your concerts that I’ve seen.. wouldn’t it be fun to include a bunch of those? I liked your version of Crazy better than the original when I saw you in Red Deer in ’07.

But back on track – Here are some of my faves…

My Way Out
Black Black Heart
Fast Car
Resurrection
Time of Our Lives
St Lawrence River
Fearless
I Am the Weapon
Secret Garden
When it Hurts
Blue

… If I continued, I might end up writing down all the songs on this list. So, I’ll keep it short and leave it there.

Martine • December 28th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

My favorite song is one we don’t hear enough; Butterfly.

Andru • December 28th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Hi David.

Fantastic idea! Can’t wait until the concert for this record. I think it could be very special. I remember one day I saw Moist in concert in downtown Montreal at the Rock Festival. Grimskunk opened for you guys and by the time you came on, the sun was setting behind the stage as you played. It is still to this day, and will forever be, my favorite concert memory. That’s why I think you should maybe consider doing an outdoor show in Montreal in the summer time for this record. I think it would create an unbelievable ambiance.

Anyway here’s is my list of what I wopuld like to hear.

1. Message Home
2. Fast Car
3. Numb
4. Black Black Heart
5. Airplanes
6. Brilliant
7. Science
8. If You Tolerate this Your Children Will be Next
9. Everything Is All Right By Me Now
10. The Music
11. Too Close To The Sun
12. Forestfire
13. St. Lawrence River

There are alot of other songs which you’ve already done acoustic or close to it, but I think these are the ones that would the most interesting to hear. In no particular order by the way.

Thanks again for all the heard work, the great concert memories, and all the future musical smiles you give all of us. Happy holidays and continued success in 2009.

Laurie T • December 28th, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Anything you do acoustically will sound wonderful.
I would love to hear:
Unholy, Dirty and Beautiful
Too Close to the Sun
The Music
Spotlight On
Blue
We Are Wolves Here
Speak/Listen
And no list would be complete without Black Black Heart

Happy Holidays
Please play NY in 2009 (Bardavon in Poughkeepsie would be a great venue)

Ugh! So if you are coming back …try to do Victoria again in the town square like last time! That was an awesome show and well wish I had a camera then too! lol Thanks for asking the fans for their opinion as we appreciate it!
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

I love the old Moist stuff. I saw David play twice at the University of Waterloo (Fed Hall) several years ago. I was in the “mosh pit” and yelled at David to play “Resurrection”, he replied “what?” – it was too loud.

OK here’s my top 5 list:
1) Forest Fire

3) Ophelia
4) St. Lawrence River
5) Breathe

Black Black Heart is my favorite song of yours and one of my all time favorite songs.

I have heard you play it live/acoustic and would really like to have a high/studio quality unplugged version for my ipod.

So please include it!!

lauraoc • December 29th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I recently discovered Fast Car while browsing iTunes, and I fell in LOVE with it. I have listened to some of the more recent albums for a few years now, but when I found Fast Car I was completely blown away. I even tabbed it myself (part of it anyway) for guitar because I wanted to play it so badly and I couldn’t find it online anywhere. I would love to hear what you’d do with an acoustic version of the song… what beautiful notes you could come up with!
- laura

Chris • December 29th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Love will save the day please =D That I’d like to see how you interpret Black black heart acoustically.

Unknown DU fans: I was just in Texas visiting some friends a week ago when a random stranger stole my concert shirt. I was inside a town house complex at the time so we never caught the guy… Nothing else was stolen (wallet, cellphone nor keys) but I kinda wish they had instead of my shirt.

jodi • December 30th, 2008 at 3:26 am

Cassandra • December 30th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

“Trickster” is masterful. Acoustically, you could take this one ridiculously far, if you wanted to.

“Message Home” is labyrinthine.

Keep going…

Kelly • December 30th, 2008 at 2:37 pm

I already requested a song for this album, and cant beleive I forgot to say Fearless. Its my ultimate fave song of yours :) I hear it with some cello playing…. dont know if youre going that route or not.

Kitty • December 30th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

I would love to hear Black Black Heart, My Way Out, Alone in the Universe, and A Day in the Life. But Black Black Heart is by far and away my favourite song, and it would be wonderful to hear acoustic.

Julie • December 30th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

I think you can pull off a modern version of Where Evil Grows by Terry Jacks. Cheers, Julie Larocque

Cindy • December 30th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Forestfire is the first song that I heard from your solo album, and I have been a fan ever since.
Alone in the Universe…another great song which I would like to hear.

Philippe-Alexandre • December 30th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Stay
The Music
And So We Run
Wake Up And Say Goodbye
Some peoples say
Black Black Heart
Alone In The Universe
Souring
Time Of Our Life ( Remix )
Time Of Our Life
Surfacing

artemiy • December 30th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Acoustic “The Music” was awsome. You cant go without it.
Wanted to hear acoustic “If you Tolerate This”, “We are Wolves Here” and “Joy in small Places” for a while.
“Time of Our Lifes” got overwhelmed by the drum N bass. Just guitar would be nice.
Acoustic “F Train” is always good.
“Tomorrow Comes”,
“Too Close to the Sun”,
“Butterfly”,
“Fearless”,
“The River”,
“Everyday Things”,
“I Am the Weapon”,
“Airplanes”,
“Secret Garden”,
“Ugly is Beautiful”,
“White Flag”,
“Some People Say”
are also a must.

yvette kirchgesner • December 30th, 2008 at 10:47 pm

Hi David,
I’m very excited about an acoustic album! Yay! Actually just listened to all albums on the way to and from Nakiska, Alberta ski vacation:-) Enjoyed every song as “The car window trees rushing by” inspired some thought on what songs I’d love to hear acoustically:
“Too Close To The Sun”
“Alone In The Universe”
“See You Fall”
“Surfacing”
“Airplanes”
“Galaxy”
“I’m Coming Down” (got to hear that high note again! X)

Enjoy creating in the new year:-) I know I will X

Emily Faerie • December 30th, 2008 at 11:40 pm

A wonderful idea I’ve been waiting for! Anything you choose will be perfect. I would love to hear some more songs sung in Thai too.

I’d especially love to hear:

forest fire
time of our lives

in this light
blinded
joy in small places

Surfacing
How Are You
Only You

Kimberly • December 31st, 2008 at 2:16 am

Hi,

“St. Lawrence River” maintains itself as one of my all time favorites…would love to hear it remade. It is also the favorite of my wonderful best-friend who is off volunteering with the mentally challenged in Nigeria…(she would be thrilled to hear it again, I know).

“Believe me” would sound great as well. The vocals are already so raw in this song that an acoustic version would be very complimentary.

Have you considered a DJ remixed album in the style of the “Verve Remixed ” series?

rob • December 31st, 2008 at 4:04 am

ok after 3 hours listening to some david usher (which was great might i add)i came up with this list (a couple are moist)but its all great.

see you fall
Faithless
Time of our lives
Going home
St.Lawrence river (of course)
Unholy Dirty and Beautiful
How are you
Brilliant
Blinded
speak listen
F train
Baby skin tattoo (the version from creature,I would just die if he did it!)
Disco Days (moist again but its all david) ;)

Fabrizio • December 31st, 2008 at 12:00 pm

I would like to listen Black black heart, The music and alone in this universe.

Those songs are really amazing.
Anyways, it’s impossible to find David Usher’s albums in Mexico, It would be really really cool to buy them in Mexico (If the albums are just in Mexico City) it’s imposible to find them at the stores.

gavinsly • December 31st, 2008 at 5:11 pm

wow.. this is hard…
but i love Long Goodbye, Message Home, My Way Out…. there is way too many Haha!

Cynthia • December 31st, 2008 at 6:19 pm

Devil by my Side!!!

Brendan • December 31st, 2008 at 7:10 pm

This reminds my of an acoustic album Collective Soul recently printed. However, for your own album, I’m sure it’ll be more fun for both you and the fans to produce songs that most people would never expect to hear stripped down acoustically.

for example,

Alone in the Universe
Hallucinations
The Music
We Are Wolves Here
I Am The Weapon

I can’ think of others, my brain is a little fried and to be honest, I haven’t popped in one of your albums in a couple of weeks at least… been on a kick with The Waking Eyes & The Killers

Brendan • December 31st, 2008 at 7:12 pm

I hate to double post, but I just thought, if you do write some new songs for said new album, It would be cool to throw something on that when you first play it live you bring the house down with some bone-chilling rock. I think that would psych the whole crowd.

Lisa • December 31st, 2008 at 10:03 pm

I love all of your songs, to many to have to pick from. My choices are:

Breath (I love this song!!!!!)
The Music
Alone in the Universe
Black Black Heart
Leave it Alone
Love will save the day

I love all of your songs, especially Breath, so no matter what you put on the album, it will be amazing.

Susan • December 31st, 2008 at 10:15 pm

Everything you write, play in concert and sing is fantastic. First saw you with a friend you told me about you (bees knees). You are a Canadian gem. I personally will promote you all time and everywhere! Keep it up and keep it coming.

We are inspired by you and looking forward to your next show.

Happy New Year. Sue

I think the crescendo’ing chorus in I’m Coming Down would be gorgeous acoustically.

St. Lawrence River is still a staple.

Good luck!

Eric Gregoire • January 1st, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Man Forestfire need to be on this cd. The song was made for a acoustic sound. also St. Lawrence River.

seen live in Montreal QC ~ 2007 and 2008
Fredericton NB ~ 2008
Hoping for Moncton NB for 2009..

David and the band, we were at Brampton on Saturday night and you guys rocked even in he cold weather, thanks guys for putting on a great show. David, your voice is much better than the Our Lady Peace guy’s voice is but did enjoy them nonetheless.

Anyways, looking forward to seeing you in a theatre or non-New Years eve event when more true fans are there, we had a couple guys behind us screaming like idiots who, sure added a bit something to a concert, but didn’t allow us to enjoy who you and the band and the music are really all about. St. Kitt’s again would be great have to admit!

Cheers and Happy New Year and thanks for coming to Southern Ontario, even with the idiots we have here!

Hi David,

I would love to hear

St. Lawrence River*
Fast Car *
My Way Out
F Train
ForestFire
Too Close to the Sun

Just to name a few. All of your music has been great of day one and it just keeps getting better. Looking forward to hearing some of it in a new way.
Have seen you in concert about 4 times and loved it at the Savoy in Glace Bay NS
Thanks

Happy New Year David. Great concert in Prince Edward Island. I bought the CD and wasn’t sure I liked it as much as the live show(which was awesome), but boy has it grown on me. I love them all but And So We Run, We Are Wolves Here and Everyday Things are probably my favourite. Some other songs that would be great to hear on the acoustic album..whoops..CD..showing my age..are Gasoline, Forest Fire, Black Black Heart, Breathe, Tangerine, The Music, Leave it Alone and Love Will Save The Day. The cover you did of Fast Car was pretty cool too although I’d rather this album be just “The Chronicles of a Moist Usher”…not to be confused with “Usher” because you could pass for twins. ;-) Good luck with the new album..can’t wait.

Hi.. I know it’s a bit late to post, I was just about to when I realized the list was already out… But I figured I would anyway.
I saw you in Saskatoon this fall, and it was absolutely amazing – I feel lame admitting it, but I cried for half of the concert, just because it was so overwhelming to finally see you in concert, and to be right up at the stage. (I’ve wanted to see you since I was 11 or so, but was always too young to go to the concerts.) The one song that wasn’t played and that I would have loved to hear was Devil By My Side, and I’ve seen on the list that many people agree.
So, although my list would be very long, since so many people have already given input, I’ll limit it to this:
Devil By My Side
Creature (I know only one other person agreed, but it’s my favourite Moist song, and I would love to hear it in concert)
Too Close to the Sun

I’m sorry for the late reply, I don’t know if my input is helpful at this point. I really hope to see you in Saskatoon again soon! :)
Naila

Forestfire

Naila • January 8th, 2009 at 3:37 pm

…and that Forestfire was supposed to be part of the list. >.<

Faye • January 10th, 2009 at 6:56 pm

Hey, I know i’m a little late since you’ve posted the list, but I thought i’d get my say in!
So I noticed that Gasoline and Push didn’t get many requests…tisk tisk, i know there moist songs but they should deffinatly be included…may I suggest a 2 disk release?! Gasoline was the first song of yours that I ever heard, so it’s deffinatly one of my favourites.
You can’t forget St. Lawrence river, I think it’s everyones favourite, like most musicians you’ve probably got tired of playing the song that everyone wants to hear, but we never grow tired of hearing it :)
Speak/listen is another great song that should be included too! as for the rest…it’s so hard to choose, so i’ll leave that to you ;)
Hope to see you in Halifax in the summer!!!
xoxo can’t wait for it to come out
