Long list! I don’t think you should do any covers though… it should be a solid David Usher acoustic album – your songs are fantastic!

ryan • January 5th, 2009 at 7:22 am

I’m still all about a full out Live DVD!…maybe a double-disc? Acoustic album/Live DVD

telo • January 5th, 2009 at 9:03 am

i thought st. lawrence river was already an acoustic record.. :-)…”see you fall” didn’t make it to the top ten…

Nathalie • January 5th, 2009 at 9:08 am

Good, my two choices are in the top five. Oh yeah, oh yeah.

He nice idea ryan.

Andrea • January 5th, 2009 at 9:30 am

Great results, though I’m surprised Gasoline didn’t make it higher up the list. I agree there’s no need for covers when you have so much amazing original material that we all want to hear. Looking forward to the album!

Ali • January 5th, 2009 at 10:05 am

I definately agree with Love Will Save the Day :)

Adam • January 5th, 2009 at 10:19 am

I’m thinking a four-disc set would solve the problem and make everyone happy – I want different versions of all those songs

david usher • January 5th, 2009 at 10:26 am

4 disc set, might be a bit much for me:)

Brenda Lynn • January 5th, 2009 at 10:31 am

Just do what you always do, go with the flow of your own creative pattern and we will enjoy it all!

Donna Coneybeare • January 5th, 2009 at 10:51 am

Thx Santa! You must of received my “Wish List”…lol. Anything David just thrills me, however an purely acoustic album will send me to the moon and back…whoo hoo!! Happy 2009 David and Band. TC and TTYL…Cheers Dee :-)

Shannon • January 5th, 2009 at 11:09 am

Despite knowing what I would like to hear, I am excited to be surprised by some choices! I would never have picked Time of our Lives to be reworked and it turned into my one of my favorite songs to hear on this last tour! :)

imthebestoneyet • January 5th, 2009 at 11:14 am

my five made the top ten…and if there is a God, an acoustic version of any of the songs would be great. How about an a cappella of one of your favorites…pure voice is always great…we’d get to hear the emotion and nuance to the song.

Veronica • January 5th, 2009 at 11:29 am

I Object! Move up Baby Skin Tattoo to the top 5, move up Message Home, and Underground! I also think it is a great idea to do a lot of songs from Hallucinations (my personal fave) but because they were more rock songs, turning them into acoustic songs would be so lovely. If God had Curves was already very acousticy!(is that a word? If it isn’t it is now, and I’m going to continue using it ;-)

I CAN’T F’N WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Natalie • January 5th, 2009 at 11:55 am

I am a little suprised by the results. All those at the top of the list are such great songs, so no matter how they are recorded they will always be great songs! Two of my favs; the Wolves and Trickster, didn’t make it close to the top.

F/ill • January 5th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I just put the exstended version of Hate on a DVD. It was from the much music gig. I really love the toned down version where you can reallt hear the words. Hate, Hate, Hate.

Jade • January 5th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

I can’t believe I missed out on the voting process. I think that there are far too many great songs to choose from, but one that list there are also a lot that might sound virtually the same acoustically as they do is their previously recorded form. It would be nice to hear some of the older stuff reinvented a little, because it was a bit heavier than the newer stuff. On the other hand, maybe if the newer stuff were reinvented in the process of creating acoustic versions (meaning they didn’t sound so much like their previously recorded versions, as I mentioned before) it would be an interesting and captivating listen.
No matter what, I’m sure I will enjoy whatever is chosen. Since I didn’t cast my vote before, I’m just going to say that Unholy, Dirty and Beautiful is my top choice. Runner up is See You Fall.
Can’t wait for this.

Maryse Ruest • January 5th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Hi david,
im little bit surprise by the result to. In this album,i would like hear the song that you dont often play in your show,(like hope, trickster, souring…) and your best classic…i prefer that you dont chose the cover that you done like you have a lot a wonderful songs…like to have a live dvd…thanks!

aga • January 5th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Leonard Cohen cover is a great idea!!… or a Duet!!! doesn’t your dad know LC? Get LC to sing Dogs!!!

and i vote for Mood Song and Tidal.

telo • January 5th, 2009 at 2:29 pm

i’m glad to hear the reworked version of “time of our lives” glad to hear the acoustic-remix version of it…
it’s all up to you david…there are no limits

Anne • January 5th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

My top choice is in the top ten :D but any songs you decide on will be great! :D

Can’t wait! :D

Elaine • January 5th, 2009 at 3:11 pm

I would like to hear Believe Me on this.

Jamie • January 5th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

I’m a little late to the game, but I can’t believe that “Joy in Small Places” isn’t higher, we love that song in my house. “We Are Wolves Here” too, how is that not higher? I’m especially intrigued at the idea of that song being taken down the acoustic road since the original really rocks out.

As far as covers, I would vote for Duran Duran’s “Come Undone,” because it’s a great song to begin with and I think the David Usher version could be spectacular.

Elizabeth M • January 5th, 2009 at 3:24 pm

I think Theme From Cola should be on there! I also think we need a xmas album from you for next Christmas….I played White Christmas over and over again this year, we need more songs like that! :)

Nico • January 5th, 2009 at 3:43 pm

I’m from the UK – it has to be “I am the weapon” a superb track from the most recent album. I just keep playing it over and over again!!!

Perry perdue • January 5th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

St. Lawrence River is great, but it is pretty well “unplugged” to begin with. It would be nice to have previou\ly acoustic songs cut out. Besides, I’m sure there will be at least one new song on the album ;]

Bryan M. • January 5th, 2009 at 5:09 pm

I’d really like to hear all the heavy songs done acoustically! :P

-Everything is Alright
-Time of Our Lives (love the new arrangement)
-Jesus was my Girl
-We are Wolves here
-Mood Song
-Theme from Cola or Ophelia

Amy • January 5th, 2009 at 5:20 pm

It’s SO hard to choose! Hey, here’s the idea: instead of picking songs, just get the band to start jamming, get out the phonebook and just sing what you read into the microphone. We’d still buy it, and it would save you the brainpower of having to pick what to play…

Honestly though, don’t do that :P. I can’t wait to hear it!!!

Evan • January 5th, 2009 at 5:29 pm

And So We Run PLEASE

Wijdan • January 5th, 2009 at 5:54 pm

‘Angeles’ by Elliott Smith. It suits your voice.

kenton • January 5th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

You don’t have to listen to me David,

But as a listener I think it would be more of a waist to do a acoustic album with songs that were already acoustically record.

kenton Have fun making this one!!!!!

Brenda Lynn • January 5th, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Pardon my intrusion (yet again) but it seems to me that re recording songs that haven’t run their courses yet (talking about the latest album) would be like throwing an axe to a piece of heart that have yet to be discovered as it was intended by a ton of new fans. So if I was an artist, I would let the “Wake up and say goodbye” album run it’s course before touching it again. Of course I’d love the acoustic version but not if it’s going to make us forget about the 2008 album who needs a few other singles on air for the moment.

Michelle • January 5th, 2009 at 6:56 pm

I had started the list a few days ago (on David’s facebook posted note) and it’s still much the same as final results. Of course some I didn’t thought would be as much asked but it’s pretty interesting!
I’m excited to get this album and it will sure be a success! I really do think it’s a great, great idea!

Lala • January 5th, 2009 at 8:16 pm

wow! that is quite the list of songs, is that the complete list?!!!

its a great collection.

Another dvd would be good to have again, doesnt have to have fancy editing, just simple in its rawest form and I would be happy.

I cant wait for the acoustic, Im telling everyone!

Nick • January 5th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

I’m glad to see at least some moist songs in there.
Underground got higher than breathe? Wow :P The video clip for that song is still floating around youtube, it’s very, very “retro”.

It’s weird that people want acoustic versions of already acoustic songs, but a new recording of St Lawrence river, In this light, etc, wouldn’t be too bad.

Jordan • January 5th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

I hope Breathe makes it on there :( but it only has 13 votes….

Lalou • January 5th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Impressive list which would be altogether on the acoustic album if it held it only to me. Then, many job in perspective for you and your team. I hope to have the pleasure to crunch good moments of recording on your site… you a little created the precedent with the last album and I liked being able to follow a little the process…
And I am not the only one we would say:)

yvette kirchgesner • January 5th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I still Think “I’m coming Down” would sound amazing reworked acoustically. I’d also like to hear at least one cover of either “Hallelujah” (by L.C.), “I’ll Stand By You” (The Pretenders) or “Ordinary Day” (Duran Duran). Just for fun! I really enjoyed your bandmates’ country version of Loverboy’s “Working For The Weekend” :-) This acoustic album is going to be awesome no matter what. You have so many of your own songs to choose from that are already great to work off. It will be a special treat to all of your fans!

Kanji • January 5th, 2009 at 9:55 pm

Babyskin Tatoo and a cover of Stay would be amazing. Liberation, Fish, Underground, Picture Elvis, Mike Hammer, and Alive would be awesome as well!

Claudia • January 5th, 2009 at 10:21 pm

No matter what songs you will pick at the end, if you re-work them all as brilliant as you did with tool, it’s going to be very awesome!! ;)

Kirsten • January 5th, 2009 at 10:24 pm

LOL “poor Tidal” ah ha ha ha. seriously, can’t wait for the new album…whatever you decide to do. I am all up for a David Usher video collection just like the Moist MPT video collection!

telo • January 5th, 2009 at 10:41 pm

david, how do you keep up with all of this? : – )

ElizabethLouise • January 5th, 2009 at 10:56 pm

Funny I was just listening the other day and Tidal caught my ear. I’d always kind of seen it as an intro to the next song, but thought for the first time, damn it might be interesting if it were developed further, so Tidal gets my vote for serious consideration. Really, I’m not just teasing because it’s the underdog.

As for the cover suggestions, please save them for shows only, plenty of great DU material to work with.

david usher • January 6th, 2009 at 5:20 am

tidal might be interesting, also there was a song called “if god had curves” as well

Kristine • January 6th, 2009 at 11:35 am

I agree with the people who would rather not hear songs whose original versions are already stripped down/acoustic-sounding (SLR, Hope, Blue, Spotlight On…even though Spotlight On is one of my favourites!).

Then again, TOOL wasn’t that “hard” to begin with, but I love the re-worked version of that so much I could listen to it all day!

So what do I know… :)

Nathalie • January 6th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

I didn’t know that we could choose covers too. So i agree with Come undone from Duran Duran. That would be a great choice.

Julie Dufort • January 6th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I agree with the others that you have enough very good original material not to do covers…

However I remember seeing you sing “Crazy” on Tv once. That was pretty amazing!

Amanda B. • January 6th, 2009 at 4:53 pm

Totally do Hallelujah… That song kicks ass… No one put Leave it Alone:( I love love love that song… You should do that one too!

Shannon • January 6th, 2009 at 5:45 pm

@Amanda – 13 people asked for Leave it Alone. It was one of the more requested Moist songs… along with Underground, Resurrection and Breathe :)

Nic • January 6th, 2009 at 6:25 pm

I’m so excited for this! But will there be as many sneak peeks into the making of this album if it is all going to be songs you’ve already done? Also, kind of off topic… when do you think the new site will be up??

yvette kirchgesner • January 6th, 2009 at 7:18 pm

I’d be very interested to hear the song “If God Had Curves”. I always wondered if there was a song title to match the Album name. Please do that…I love the theme X

Tammy • January 6th, 2009 at 7:50 pm

I don’t see ‘Black Black Heart’ on the list, do I?
I think this is a great idea for an album! I love acoustic songs! :)

Maryse Ruest • January 6th, 2009 at 9:36 pm

oh… i was listening the song “tonight” from moist…and im thinking that it will be a great choice…..

Batman • January 6th, 2009 at 10:13 pm

Just gotta get the other two Moist CDs and I will have finally have heard each and every song. Thanks for using your music talent to its fullest!

ElizabethLouise • January 6th, 2009 at 10:50 pm

“also there was a song called “if god had curves” as well”
Huh? There was a song with the same name as an album, but not on it??? Awww, now I’m dying to hear it – oh he toys with us so. LOL Has anyone heard it?

BTW, what is this “Tool” people are referring to, did I miss another one somewhere?

Now I’m thinking the acoustic album could be an opportunity to toss in a few songs that just never quite fit into other albums. Maybe more of a creative collage rather than a cohesive album.

Laura • January 6th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

just chiming in again to restate the awesomeness of UNDERGROUND and how much more awesome it would be if it were to show up on the CD.
Or if you just wanna perform it at your next Toronto show, that would be great too :)

rob • January 6th, 2009 at 11:53 pm

ill tell you what you could throw babyskin tattoo(CREATURE version)on the acoustic album.I know it didnt get alot of votes but its got some good emotion it would come out well acousticly.And/or come to victoria and play it.Man i love that songand your lyrics man!!your greaaaat! :) thanx for listening

Kanji • January 7th, 2009 at 3:11 am

4 disc set might be too much, but how about a 2??? Lol, I still think you should do 1 disc of newer material and 1 disc to the older stuff; moist and little songs/morning orbit. I think that would be fantastic…

david usher • January 7th, 2009 at 9:38 am

hummm…(thinking)

Bryan M. • January 7th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

“If God Had Curves” the song?? I think I’d love to hear it!

Do what feels right, David. If re-recording St.Lawrence River acoustically when it’s already acoustic seems a bit silly… then don’t do it. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good song, but we have the Little Songs version AND the Hallucinations live version.

As for a cover, I’m still going to say Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen.

@ElizabethLouise. TOOL = Time of Our Lives :)

Claudia • January 7th, 2009 at 5:29 pm

I remember hearing “if god had curves” in a soundcheck out west. I got it on old school videotape :P would love to hear a full version!

repliderium.com • January 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm

When are we getting our greedy little hands on a live CD?

la Paz • January 7th, 2009 at 8:16 pm

UGLY IS BEAUTIFUL

aga • January 7th, 2009 at 8:18 pm

there Definitely needs to be a Live record in the (near) future!!! incredible live.

ElizabethLouise • January 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm

@ Bryan M – Thanks, I’m a little slow these days (need sleep). I should have figured that one out. LOL

yvette kirchgesner • January 7th, 2009 at 9:21 pm

I agree with a live cd/dvd full on show. Maybe for the next “pro-jet”

Heather • January 8th, 2009 at 12:32 am

I would love to see :
“Breathe”
“The Music”
“Kill The Lights”
“Numb”
“Hallucinations”
“Message Home”
“Alone in the Univerese”
“Day in The Life”
“Sunday Comes”
“Dogs”
“Shotgun”
“Time Of Our Lives”
“Silver”
“Push”
“Machine Punch Through”
“Black Black Heart”
“Leave It Alone”
“Forestfire”
“My Way out”
“How Are You”
“Comes And Goes”

And that is only a short list, lol

hope you are having a great New Year!:-)

Bono • January 8th, 2009 at 6:41 am

Awesome job Shannon. Interesting to see the requests layed out that way thanks for doing that. To be honest though I’m rather dissapointed with us the fans for having 8 or 9 of the top 10 choices being radio singles. C’mon guys where’s the originality here. I mean we have a chance to reqest Galaxy and Sparkle and Shine to be put on an actual album and we vote for Alone in the Universe? Black Black Heart? St. Lawrence River? Yes those are fantastic songs but I really thought the fans would’ve gone for the less obvious rather than a simple “hits” track listing. Oh well. Whatever the songs the album will be amazing. I was just hoping for a bit more orginality from us.

victoria bourne • January 8th, 2009 at 11:15 am

I agree with Bono. These are my pix in no particular order:
Some people say
Ugly is beautiful
So far down
In this light
Blinded
Too close to the sun
Hallucinations
Souring
Time of our lives
And so we run
Silver (have ya been, have ya been, silver, ya ya! Love it always!)
I am the weapon
Unholy dirty beautiful (Mt Tremblant 2002 deepest I ever heard you sing)
Forestfire
Million
Life of bees
Jesus was my girl
Long goodbye
Hey Kids
Everything is alright by me now

and see touch feel :D

and how bout you just pull out some of those unreleased gems off the shelf, give us your worst stuff…and we’ll love it. I’d like to hear a song about walking out of water and breathing life in a bold way, that says the struggle is over and begins again in a new light. happy new year and happy birthday to Coco!

Kirk • January 8th, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Old Toy Trains-Nana Mouskouri…………..kidding. The list has lots of favourites on it.

david usher • January 8th, 2009 at 1:13 pm

old toy trains:)

Kirk • January 8th, 2009 at 1:17 pm

It’s obvious what people are asking for….David Usher-All of Me(So far)…and then All of Me Volume II 20 years down the road. Throw in a couple new songs and voilà, a hit cd. Hmm..if you did that all acoustically you should have that done by 2027 or so…as long as you don’t take time to tour. Forget that. An acoustic album with 12-13 songs will do for now. ;-)

Kirk • January 8th, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I just wanted one up there that no one thought of..or would ever say. I didn’t check, but I’m pretty sure Old Toy Trains was not mentioned.

Kirk • January 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

I was thinking you could do a kick ( | ) acoustic version of INXS-Elegantly Wasted….but I still would like to hear your own songs stripped down…and maybe for a twist take a couple of the slower melodies and rock the sh** out of them.

Bryan M. • January 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

hey, just thought of another song…

how about Hate? with full lyrics. I’ve only ever heard the full song once, back in the beginning of ’97 at MuchMusic’s I&I. and I believe that was acoustic wasn’t it? ;)

Shannon • January 8th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

@Bono – thanks! I agree about the singles though new versions of those songs may appeal to the casual fan! A mix of reworked singles and hidden gems would be ideal!

Naila • January 8th, 2009 at 11:41 pm

So erm… I already commented/posted a (small) list of songs I’d really like to hear on the other entry related to acoustic album-ness…. My list consisted of:

Devil By My Side
Creature
Too Close to the Sun
Forest Fire

Buuut, I just realized I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t add a couple more songs:

If You Tolerate This
In This Light
Million (my favourite song off Little Songs)
Mood Song (I thought about it, and I think it could make a really interesting acoustic song… )

Of course… I’d really love to hear anything/everything again, those are just a few that really stick out to me. I know all of these have already been suggested, but I feel they deserve even more votes, so there you go.:)

Happy New Year’s, and hope to see you in Saskatoon soon! ^.^
Naila

Naila • January 9th, 2009 at 12:04 am

Ohh yes… and We Are Wolves Here would be awesome… :D
Oh dear, I need to turn off my thought or I’ll just keep coming up with more.
Naila

Sean • January 9th, 2009 at 3:33 pm

just re work an entire album like morning orbit. that would be really cool. i gotta give my vote for Final Thoughts and the Last Day on Earth and deliver me

Chris • January 9th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

victoria bourne • January 11th, 2009 at 9:12 am

mmmmmm, i would love to hear freaky be beautiful as an accoustic. that would be a real treat! How does that work? Are there any legal issues in re-recording moist songs that would prevent you from including them? thanks

Dragon • January 11th, 2009 at 5:16 pm

“damn ive written a lot of songs, poor old Tidal with 0″

Hehe, yah, well could still add an acoustic version still. It is all up to you, is it not David ?

Seriously though, is not St Lawrence River acoustic anyways ?? I shoulda gave my choice, but hopefully it is not to late :

1. Tommorow Comes
2. Breathe
3. Trickster

….I feel guilty about the Moist song, but it is a fav of mine. I cannot wait for this album to come out !! Oh, and please no covers of other bands. I tend to like David Usher.

I’ve just re-visited “Liberation” and it has my vote! It would be interesting to hear it redone. “Old Toy Trains”….makes me smile :-) I’ve been hearing that sung around my house for the last six weeks!

You know here in Edmonton you did The Music live on the air at one of the local radio stations when you were in town and they played it almost as much as the cd version for a while. I think they still continue to play it once in a while. It was/is amazing. You’ve absolutely got to put The Music on the record.
And no covers, just pure undiluted David Usher!!!

Salut!

Je suis d’accord avec le choix de chansons pour le prochain album live…impatiente de mettre la main là-dessus…

That is a lot of songs! and some are still missing (Sweet Electric Child… Claus :)

At least one song from the Moist days!! I have been toiling with which one if there could only be one… I can’t pick just one.

When I first looked at the list I gasped just a little when I saw ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next.’ The song is absolutely perfect the way it is! I can’t start that song without listening to all of it. But eventually I did consider what if… What if it was vocals, piano and keyboards only? Or maybe that and then add a cello, possibly introduced at the solo, and sad like Elgar’s Cello Concerto op.85…

Either way, thanks for the masterpiece.

I would love to hear absolutely anything off of “If God Had Curves” I can’t even tell you how many times I have listened to that album and been moved by it.

In terms of specific songs though, I would say:

1. Devil by My Side
2. See You Fall
3. Surfacing
4. Babyskin Tattoo
5. How Are you
6. Hope (tell everyone)
7. Closer
8. Science
9. White Flag
10. Life of Bees
11. Butterfly
12. In this light
13. If you tolerate this your children will be next
14. Brilliant

OMGosh people! This shrieking love! Unless I missed it when scanning the list.

Suzanne • January 16th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

I think Mood song would be a nice challenge to turn acoustic. It gets my vote. :-)

So often you treat us with great new arrangements of known songs – you are a very generous artist!

melissa • January 17th, 2009 at 11:38 pm

1) deliver me

Josee • January 19th, 2009 at 10:39 pm

Hello,

I am happy for an acoustic record..Could you please release some unreleased material in the future? Since we’re Canadian your music isn’t slapped all over the web and it’s hard to find out much.

I think everyone would like that, normally fans like the unreleased stuff more than the songs that make it to radio.

Thank you!

c • January 22nd, 2009 at 2:18 am

Hello David,

I didn’t see Mandolin on the list…that is definately my favourite song and would sound gorgeous acoustic, in my opinion anyways!

Thanks,

frances • January 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Hello David,
I have been thinking, as I am sure others have been, about which songs would be good candidates for your upcoming acoustic album and I have decided that the following would definitely be at the top of my list of songs to hear redone on your new piece of work:
Life of Bees-it is so melancholy that’s it’s just a virtual no brainer to do this one acoustically, Ugly is Beautiful- the way the lyrics flow- it would be beautiful to hear it done on an acoustic album, Gasoline and Tangerine are classics, Blue would also be a great choice.. good luck with the new album- I will be anxiously anticipating it’s arrival!

Bryan M. • January 24th, 2009 at 9:01 pm

hey,

was just wondering will this acoustic record spawn an acoustic tour?

David P • February 16th, 2009 at 11:00 am

Hi David,

Looking forward to this acoustic album! :)

I would also like to echo other peoples requests for a uk tour, or at least 1 show in the UK; maybe in Manchester so I have a chance of seeing you live rather than just on youtube!? ;)

Hope the recording sessions are going well.

chris • February 22nd, 2009 at 5:36 pm
